Weird Dream

Dreamt that a nearby country dropped a nuclear bomb and affected surrounding countries last night. I can remember the name of those countries but I shall keep it anonymous just in case it stirs political shit.

Anyway I found myself with some of my classmates from sec sch and JC in this big room like Suntec Convention Centre awaiting doom with this big screen in front of us constantly replaying the footage while broadcasting news updates now and then. Meanwhile, we were also playing with lego (ok maybe its a way to calm us down or something) and trying to seal the corners of the walls with duct tape.

Then towards the end emotions got a bit depressing when the screen played something which i cant remember now and i went to hide with my classmate to avoid looking at the screen. After that one of my sec sch teachers came in and told us to stop our nonsense and ordered us to dismantle the lego structures and peel off the duct tape. Couldnt understand why he wasnt panicking and treating a near-apocalypse so lightly but I woke up by then.

So anyway looking at the main key objects of the dream I googled their meanings.

1. For nuclear bomb

To dream of a nuclear bomb suggests feelings of helplessness and loss of control. You are experiencing some strong hostility and rage, where it is nearly destructive. Important changes are about to occur. You may also be expressing a desire to wipe out some aspect of yourself. Alternatively, the nuclear bomb serves as an indication that something crucial and precious to you has ended.

Oh gawd. Like what? I cant think of anything right now. Ok lets move on to nuclear war

2. Nuclear war

To dream of a nuclear war represents feelings of hopelessness to overcome a problem that only makes things worse. A struggle against total devastation of a life situation or relationship. Feeling that you are fighting against a problem that risks all that you care about. Risking everything you have to keep everything you have.

Not positive either. Alhough i dont know what i will risk.

3. Bomb shelter (ok suntec convention centre is a pseudo bomb shelter in the dream)

To dream that you are in a bomb shelter suggests that you are being overly protective with some emotion or aspect of your waking life. You are trying to keep your unexpressed feeling from coming to the surface

Wonder what is that unexpressed feeling.

4. Lego

To see or play with Legos in your dreams indicates your ability to make something out of a single block. It may refer to the “building blocks” or foundation of some plan. The dream may also be a pun on “let go”. Is there something in your waking life that you need to let go

So which one is it?

5. Classmates

To see old classmates in your dream indicate that you need to draw on your old associations with your former classmates to gain insight in some current relationship. It represents a past lesson that you have learned and is applicable in some aspect of your waking life now.

Hmm i cant find it applicable now.

6. Duct tape

To see or use duct tape in your dream represents your strong hold or grasp of some situation. You are able to separate your feelings and be objective

I have always been objective. Cough.

7. Teacher

To see your teacher (past or present) in your dream suggests that you are seeking some advice, guidance, or knowledge. You are heading into a new path in life and are ready to learn by example or from a past experience. Consider your own personal experiences with that particular teacher. What subject was taught? Alternatively, a teacher relates to issues with authority and seeking approval. You may be going through a situation in your waking life where you feel that you are being treated like a student or in which you feel you are being put to a test. Also pay attention to the demeanor and attitude of the teacher in your dream. If the teacher in your dream is mean, then it implies that you may be putting too much pressure on yourself to succeed.

Yeah he was mean cos he thought we were making mountains out of molehills during an apocalypse. But he didnt teach me in any subject.

8. Screen

To attend or watch a movie or television screening in your dream suggests that you are watching life pass you by. Perhaps you are living vicariously through the actions of others. Consider also how the movie parallels to situations in your waking life. Alternatively, the dream suggests that you need to take a step back and look at some waking relationship more objectively.

Not very applicable here if my waking life is a nuclear bomb.

9. News

To watch or read the news in your dream signifies an important message from your subconscious. Alternatively, the dream may mean that you need to be more objective in a situation.

To hear good news in your dream is a dream of the contrary and represents a negative turn in events. If you hear bad news in your dream, then a situation is not as bad as you had anticipated.

Not as bad as i thought? Haha.

10. Hiding (ok i swear this is the last one!)

To dream that you are hiding suggests that you are keeping some secret or withholding some information. You may not be facing up to a situation or dealing with some issue. However, you may be getting ready to reveal something and confess before somebody finds out. To dream that someone is hiding indicates that you are looking for a sense of security and protection.

So i need some security and i am going to confess something.

Overall, nothing positive. Probably indicating me to do some soul searching. But there is another saying that goes dreams are the opposite of reality. So i think i am going to be fine!

And….my 1st paper is TOMORROW. oh gawd i just hope it wont be as terrible as a nuclear war.

Conversations from LOTR Personality Test

MK shared this on facebook so I decided to do it for fun. Not a fan of Lord of the Rings except that I thought Gollum is kinda cute. Anyway before knowing who is your identity in LOTR, you gonna determine your personality from the Myer Briggs test.

So let me be nice and give a brief summary of what the alphabets stand for.

1. E- Extroverts VS  I- Introverts (Pretty straightforward so shant elaborate)

2. S- Sensing (pay more attention to information coming through your five senses) VS N-Intuition (pay more attention to the patterns that you see in the information you receive)

3. T-Thinking (put more weight on objective principles and impersonal facts) VS F-Feeling (put more weight on personal concerns and people involved)

4. J- Judging (prefer a more structured and decided lifestyle) VS P-Perception (more flexible and adaptable lifestyle)

Basically if one end of the dichotomy is greater than the other then you belong to that side. After working the math combinations there will be 16 different types of personalities. But anyway, it is still recommended to take the test for better analysis.

Moving back to LOTR (click image to enlarge although the size of this image is 1.7MB)

Let me start with YH. Hers is INTP, although I feel that it should be an F instead of T. I suspect that something is wrong with the test. But never mind.

Anyway she doesnt know who Gandalf is so KY and MK were showing her videos of Gandalf. MK was saying “so KY you quite powerful but YH may be more powerful coz gandalf is a wizard sent over from heaven by the gods” (KY’s response: Hmph!) and when YH was saying that she is too lazy to watch the vid, MK replied “see how badass YH is? (from a Gandalf fight scene) it’s not my problem if she’s not interested in seeing how much potential for power she has

What else does the LOTR expert say?

so wizard fighting demon and both fell into the pit at the veryvery far bottom of the cave…. but wizard defeated the fire demon in the end. see how much potential YH has? lol!

Gandalf is powerful, but at first he was powederfool. got tricked by his boss before as shown in this video. so be careful YH don’t get tricked by your boss or group leader or something. but revenge is sweet ^^ so if your boss mess with you next time must fight back ok (Then shows video called Saruman and White Gandalf)

KY’s response: don’t sound like YH.

Epic much.

Moving on to KY. She is an INTJ. So says she: no one can beat my elround (still put heart shape at the end of the sentence) Then she showed YH the video between Elround and Gandalf talking -_-  YH couldnt recognise which one is Gandalf (seriously woman do you have a childhood). Anyway the scene was about  how Gandalf got hold of the ring and discussed with Elround what to do with it

Then the expert chips in: elrond is an immortal half-elf and one of the most powerful lords in the story

Ky’s response: yay! ikr! (oh gawd so happy -_-)

For MK he is an ISFP so that makes him legolas the elven prince archer. Here is another mention of Legolas in the convo:

KY: is anyone of us a girl character?

MK: Nope. Mine is the closest to a girl because he’s so pretty he could pass as one
I leave you to imagine Legolas’s reaction.
Anyway mine is ISTJ so my LOTR personality is Aragorn. To be honest, that’s a bit me yet not a bit like me. Especially the word “Calm”. I get irritated easily and will start cursing people if they make me panic! Alright it dies down after a while cos no one listens to my complaining but I am really whiny in the beginning.
So the expert says: and Christina’s is the hero of the whole story. the rightful king of the place haha
and the king should never kill his allies when they make mistakes.
I dont kill, just that i complain.
Anyway the ‘one does not simply’ guy is a ESTJ. Nearly became him cos my test result showed a 50-50 extrovert-introvert although i was expexting 40-60. Which was weird cos i thought i am pretty anti-social. Still, test results shouldnt be substituted as medical evidence or let it be the determining factor for your personality
So probably after exams introverted MK might be hosting a LOTR marathon for his introverted friends although channel 5 has repeated LOTR trilogies countless of times. I will bring salty popcorn bought from Daiso.
Ok shall end off here before it gets boring. Wonder what is Gollum’s personality type though. But that will be hard to determine since he has a dissociative personality disorder. Have fun finding out your identity in the LOTR universe!

End of the semester…again!

And so it’s the last day of the semester. And a happy ending, only temporarily. So we were done with the last presentation and it was rather well-received. Well everyone worked hard and had fun! (Oh gosh I now realised that I seldom upload photos of my other friends in this blog.)

Today ended well, but not for the past few days. In fact it was rough and I wished I just slept it through. I wasnt listening during one of the lectures and drew this. It was really how I felt in that particular module. Sometimes art doesnt have to look realistic as long as it depicts reality truthfully. Have never felt so trapped and repressed before.

Anyway I posted it on facebook as well and to my surprise one of the blogshops which I purchased stuff from commented on it telling me to cheer up and all. Was really touched! AND TO MY HORROR, the next day my MUM liked it! But I guess she doesnt know what I was trying to imply.

2013-11-13 12.10.10

Also spent my last day shopping. Just taking it as having a break before resuming revision. Spent it with YH, went to eat afternoon snack at Itacho sushi. Gawd the sushi is damn cheap! 80cents per piece from one of the menus and it isnt the normal seaweed thing but the sushi roll. The spicy salmon sushi is not spicy at all (for my spicy tolerance standards lol). Ambience is pretty good as well. It is really rare for YH to eat Japanese food so I was surprised when she got excited upon seeing Itacho.

Hmm what else… cant believe it’s the end of the semester again. My head (dont know how many times I have mentioned this) is still in summer school. When I look at those photos taken in Penang it was so nostalgic. So glad to have met a bunch of crazy people in JS2231 and we are still closely in touch throughout this semester. Oh wait I should post a pic of us here!

Alright I dont know what else to comment about this semester. I just found myself in a love-hate relationship with history although it used to be ‘love’ previously. But with love sure comes hate. Meanwhile just gonna study and wait for the results of the exchange programme application. Just hoping that I can get the answer I want. *Trying not  to daydream about the amount of shopping I can do in Hong Kong if I get into CUHK*

The Mummy Secrets of the Tomb Exhibition

FINALLY after months of procrascination I went to the Mummy exhibition at Artscience museum! Happened to be the 3rd last day of the exhibition and a public holiday as well so there was quite a crowd. There was this voice in my head telling me that I only have XX days till exam but YOLO!

To summarise the entire exhibition it’s about looking at the burial process and mummification of egyptian mummies using the high priest Nesperenub as a case study(CASE STUDY omg how academic have I become?!?!).

No photography allowed (BOOOO) so pardon me if I cant remember every single section of the entire exhibit (memory failing lol).

Anyway some photos of the area outside the exhibtion:

Took a photo at the photobooth after it closed shop for the day

2013-11-02 18.15.49

First up is a 20min long 3D film on the unwrapping of the mummy Nesperennub. Nesperennub’s coffin has never been opened since it is too tedious and complex so visitors are compensated with technology. The film takes you on a journey through his body (like you can really feel yourself travelling in the cross section). Pretty informative. It covers life in Ancient Egypt in particular Nesperennub’s role as a priest. Then it moves on to talk about the mummification and burial process as well as a re-construction of Nesperennub’s face (quite good looking).

2013-11-02 21.34.17

There are also complementary workshops around so we went to the one on Secrets of Embalming. Couldnt make it for the Amulet one cos of the timing we went there (arugh). Secrets of Embalming was just going into more detail on mummification like the materials used and getting volunteers to do it 1st hand on a dummy. More of for kids, but quite a number of them got distracted halfway.

Then went to look at the exhibits proper. The 1st section is some form of contextual knowledge about life in Ancient Egypt such as how they used cats as a votive offering and statues of gods like Seth. Subsequent sections are displays of objects associated with the burial process, with quotes from the Book of the Dead on the walls (a set of spells on how to achieve eternal life) and a couple of other mummies in their cases. The final section is the mummy of Nesperenub, the model of his re-constructed appearance and the objects found on his body when he was discovered.

Some digression here. The amulets look something like these. They are placed in specific areas in body of the mummy to protect him during his journey to the underworld. Each amulet has a specific function like protecting the limbs, rebirth etc.

Also the dead’s lungs, intestines, liver and stomach are stored in canopic jars. Each canopic jar has a deity to protect that particular organ. These jars are also to be buried with the mummy. So here is how a jar looks like with one of them missing as I took the picture from the photobooth. Spot the missing deity.

What attracted me the most was how the Egyptians valued the moral of the individual than the intellectual. Embalmers use a hook and stick it through the dead’s nostril (ouch) to let the brain flow out of the body (cant imagine) as Egyptians dont see the brain as important. Instead what they emphasize is the purity of the heart cos it is the centre to one’s being.

In the dead’s journey to the underworld there is a process called the weighing of the heart. So the gods of the underworld judged a person according to his behaviour when he was still alive. If the heart is heavier than the feather, the soul is unable to enter afterlife and simply becomes non-existent. The heart is also eaten by Ammit, the devourer of the dead. If it balances the scale, the soul can then enter immortality.

Since the Egyptians are highly religious even in their daily life, this afterlife construct gives them the incentive to exercise moral behaviour so that they can escape the most undesired fate. If only such mindset still applies in modern life. How many people nowadays harbour ill-intentions? So many people are in the pursuit of intellectual and neglecting their moral values. Sometimes we should really go back to the past and learn. Ancient doesnt mean useless or outdated.

Last of all here’s some description of the retail shop. Most of the merchandise like shirts and fridge magnets have the Eye of Horus printed on it. There isnt any exhibition guide book or some sort, instead the books are of general reference like Egyptian art and daily life in Ancient Egypt. Other unique stuff include mini Anubis plush toys, Egyptian snow globe, Egyptian shoes (who am I kidding) and plush toy snakes. Oh there is also astronaut icecream at $10.

Overall the exhibition was shorter than what I expected, but it was an info-overload as I didnt have much exposure to Ancient Egypt history. Still there are some parallels to Imperial China history such as their beliefs in afterlife and burial practices. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by many names of the Egyptian gods and their powers (I still cant recognise Isis since the gods look very alike lol). There was a guided tour near us so I was eavesdropping. And from what I gather it is more productive to get a guide.

Signing off with the Eye of Horus, the main symbol (or mascot) of the entire exhibition
